"Nutrition Tips That Give You a Competitive Edge at Work"

Here are a few tips from WholeBody Nutrition on how good nutrition can not only make you feel and look better but also improve your performance, energy and productivity.
Eat Breakfast - You've heard it before but it truly is the most important meal of the day. You need to fill your gas tank for the day ahead of you. For a quick and easy breakfast solution try these portable foods - hard-boiled eggs, fruit, wholegrain toast with almond butter or peanut butter and top it off with slices of apple or banana, oatmeal with nuts, seeds and berries (you can use the frozen kind and they will defrost in your cereal), left-over veggies from last night's dinner, and miso soup (the Japanese do it all the time!)
Eat Lunch - You need to keep your gas tank full and skipping lunch is a sure-fire way to feel a crash or a major hunger around 3 or 4 pm. Learn the healthy options near your office and have a repertoire of healthy lunch choices so you don't have to think about it when you're rushed for time. Also make sure you have healthy snack options too - snacks that have complex carbs, protein, and fat in them. Some good examples? Veggies and hummus, an apple or banana with almond butter, trail mix, whole wheat pita and salsa or turkey wrapped around cheese.
Reduce Soda and Coffee - High caffeine consumption leads to eventual adrenal gland exhaustion, which leaves you vulnerable to fatigue and autoimmunity in the long term. Caffeine also stimulates stress hormones that increase your anxiety, irritability, and insomnia.Instead have water, water, water and also green tea. It has less caffeine than coffee or black tea and has the added benefit of anti-oxidants. Green tea can taste "grassy" so we suggest only steeping your tea for 2-3 minutes. Also, try a non-sugar sweetener such as Stevia to sweeten it up a bit. Other hot beverages to try are Yerba Matte (from South America) and also Teecino which is an herbal coffee with less side effects. Keep these options at your desk so you'll always have access to better choices
Take Mini-Breaks Throughout the Day - In the morning, take a few minutes to breathe slowly and deeply before you head to your next meeting. At lunchtime, turn your computer display off so you can spend at least 5 minutes eating your lunch in peace. In the afternoon, sneak outside for a quick 5-minute walk in the fresh air. Ride home from work in silence (turn the radio off and put the cell phone down) so you get a break from the constant noise and input of the workday. Before you go to bed, stretch for a few minutes to calm your mind before hitting the sheets.
